The name “organza” is thought to have come from Urgench (also spelled “Organza” or “Organza” depending on the romanization system), an ancient city on the Silk Road where many luxury fabrics were traded.
These fabrics were often lightweight, semi-sheer, and crisp, characteristics which were later associated with and differentiated organza from other fabrics. This made organza a staple for the fashion, bridal, and decorative fabric industries.
