Do you provide individual support to those who are starting a fashion brand?

Individual support provided by Hula Global

Starting a fashion brand requires a massive amount of support and encouragement during the journey of brand building. This is the case with many first-time founders who feel rather lost when starting a brand.

This enormous support is also a question we receive regularly at Hula Global. The answer for us is quite simple. While Hula Global prefers to support emerging brands to the fullest extent possible, that support is limited to how much the founder is willing to support the company through their own active participation with the company in established programs.

Rarely does Hula Global receive requests from first-time founders, starting a fashion brand with no money, and expecting hand-holding, free services, and continuous support.

From our perspective, starting with no money and expecting to receive a personal guide at no cost is quite unreasonable.

To address the needs of early-stage founders, Hula Global has designed structured accelerator and product development programs specifically aimed at helping entrepreneurs launch and scale their fashion brands.

These programs are not only educational but also practical, offering real-world industry insights, strategic guidance, and hands-on assistance. They are tailored to different levels of experience, ensuring that both complete beginners and more prepared founders receive appropriate support.

In addition to its commercial programs, Hula Global is also involved in social impact initiatives through the Bose Foundation, a non-profit organization that collaborates with other NGOs and mission-driven founders working within the fashion and apparel space.

This initiative reflects Hula Global’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting ethical and sustainable fashion entrepreneurship beyond purely commercial interests.

However, Hula Global is very clear on how they differentiate between supporting entrepreneurs, which is what they do, and offering free, personalized business services.

If someone wants to create a for-profit fashion brand and does not see the need to pay for services or product development, Hula Global considers this a bad business position.

A fashion brand cannot operate without a budget for manufacturing, which includes costs related to production, distribution, design, and supply chain.

They also believe that there must be a balance between supporting the wider fashion community and the “business” side of things, which includes paying staff, keeping suppliers, and paying other costs. Information, industry, and educational content are freely available, but they will charge for personalized service, mentorship, and account management.

To foster ease of access, Hula Global frequently creates and disseminates self-service educational material on its blog, website, knowledge base, and social media pages.

Resources outlining brand strategy, manufacturing, minimum order quantity (MOQs), pricing, supply chain, and product development, among others, are available. These materials are especially useful to aspiring founders like those who are not enrolled in any program and who want to do some research and learn independently.

On the other hand, personalized support is available via official programs from Hula Global. When a founder enrolls in a particular product development, accelerator, or manufacturing partnership program, he/she is matched with an account manager, who is her main point of contact, and provides support tailored for each unique partnership.

Brand owners/ founders have an account manager assigned to them who aids them with most of the steps involved in the processes from design, fabric sampling, selection, to production planning, and QC (quality control).

Alongside these processes, the account manager goes over the timelines, costings, and logistics so that the brand owner is always in the know, and she is confident and along with the process.

More than the account manager, Hula Global’s program participants are integrated into more of the support ecosystem, which includes designers, sourcing, quality control, and production planning. This more expansive support structure ensures that a new brand is more broadly supported than being assigned to a single point of contact.

Hula Global recommends that founders unsure about needing support utilize the educational materials and evaluate their own self-readiness first. From there, they can decide to enroll in a program that fits their needs and budget.

Hula Global’s model straddles the line of accessibility and the ability to charge for services. They can provide passionate support to new fashion entrepreneurs, and are also able to provide meaningful, hands-on assistance within the structure of a formal program, rather than informally.

To sum up, Hula Global offers individual support to newcomers in the fashion industry only through the more structured accelerator, product development, and manufacturing programs.

Other than the educational materials that are free and offer no assistance, the rest are for founders who engage with the company. This model ensures that Hula Global is able to support emerging brands and do so with a high-level quality.
